A Life of Purpose: The Inspiring Journey of Mr Satyen Kamat
Early Life & Family Values
Mr Satyen Kamat grew up in a lower middle class family in Chembur, Mumbai. His father worked as an English professor, while his mother, originally from Kerala, learned Hindi and Marathi to become a respected tuition teacher in their neighborhood. From them, Satyen absorbed lifelong values: patience, simplicity, empathy, and perseverance, which continue to shape his journey.
Education, Career & Early Struggles
Satyen pursued a B.Com from Poddar College, Mumbai, followed by an MBA from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute. Recognizing the rise of technology, he took a bold step by learning computers and moving to Bangalore with just his CV and a train ticket. After facing multiple rejections due to his non-engineering background, he secured a marketing role at Infosys, then a small setup. Joining just before its IPO, he received shares and held onto them through growth phases. His career later took him to the US for five years, and by his early 30s, he had purchased a home in Mumbai and established a successful global corporate career.
A Spiritual Turning Point
Despite professional success, Satyen felt a deeper calling toward purpose and service. While in Bangalore, he discovered Sri M through a radio discourse on the Ramayana that deeply moved him. This marked a turning point. Under Sri M’s guidance for four years, Satyen learned how to balance spirituality with everyday life. The core teaching he embraced: true spirituality lies in serving others.
Transition to Service & Meaningful Work
With financial security in place, Satyen made a conscious shift, dedicating about 80% of his time to social and spiritual service, while continuing limited IT consulting. He trained in counselling and began offering free emotional support, at a time when mental health awareness in India was still limited.
Volunteer Work & Social Impact
Satyen’s contribution to society is both consistent and impactful:
- Helping Hands Network-
- SEVA 4 Smiles-
His work reflects a deep commitment to dignity, compassion, and human connection.
Discovering Marzi
About 8–9 months ago, Satyen joined Marzi, finding it aligned with his values. He actively participates in the 4:30 PM daily calls and appreciates the supportive community and meaningful connections it offers.
A Life Defined by Commitment
Even while dealing with physical pain during the interview, Satyen showed up, fully demonstrating the same resilience and dedication that define his life. His journey is a powerful reminder that success is not just about achievement, but about purpose, service, and staying true to one’s values.
